FAQs

  • Absolutely! While sessions are adaptable to all fitness levels, they can be incredibly intense. Opus classes are designed to challenge your body, improve endurance, and enhance physical conditioning, making it an excellent workout option for those who want and need to feel like you’ve had an intense workout for the day!

  • Yes!!! Opus classes are very effective for building strength and seeing progress and results! Most sessions are full-body workouts. A particular area of the body might be highlighted to enhance a set of muscles or part of the body but the whole body is always a part of a movement. Strength, tone, balance, and overall physical grace and acumen, without requiring heavy weights.

  • While weights can be beneficial, they are not a necessity, even after menopause. Opus classes are a powerful tool for maintaining and building strength, flexibility, and bone density, which are particularly important considerations post-menopause. Furthermore, our one on one sessions are completely customizable so your program will be well-suited to get results for the stage of life that you are in.

  • Not at all. While equipment like reformers can add variety and intensity to your workout, Opus mat classes can be very effective using minimal or no equipment at all. Mat routines rely solely on your body weight and can be remarkably beneficial.

  • The Pilates Reformer is a bed-like frame with a flat platform, known as the carriage, which rolls back and forth on wheels within the frame. The carriage is attached to one end of the reformer by a set of springs, which provide differing levels of resistance as the carriage is moved against them. The reformer also has straps with handles, a foot bar, and often a headrest.

  • Versatility and Range: The reformer's design allows for a wide range of exercises to be performed, targeting various muscle groups. It can be adjusted to accommodate different body sizes and levels of ability.

Controlled Movement: The reformer facilitates controlled, precise movements, which is crucial in ensuring effective and safe workouts. This control is especially important for injury recovery, as it allows the user to work very specifically and avoid movements that might exacerbate their condition.

Athletes looking to enhance their performance or prevent injuries can use one-on-one sessions for targeted strength, flexibility training, control, focus, power, coordination and your own personalized sense of composure.

Vocabulary and Understanding the Benefits of Opus Pilates and Movement training.

Our tailored exercises and movements facilitate both concentric (muscle shortening) and eccentric (muscle lengthening) movements. This dual action is vital for building balanced muscle strength and flexibility, which are crucial in the rehabilitation of injuries and building long term strength.

Concentric and Eccentric Muscle Actions

At Opus, many of our classes place a significant emphasis on spinal articulation, fostering a gentle and controlled range of movements in the spine. This practice is not only beneficial for individuals recovering from back injuries, aiding in the restoration of flexibility and strength, but it also offers numerous additional advantages. A healthy spine contributes to improved posture, which in turn can reduce the risk of chronic pain and enhance overall body alignment. It supports efficient movement, allowing the body to function more effectively in daily activities and reducing the likelihood of future injuries.

Spinal Articulation

Opus emphasizes the importance of proper breathing, or breathwork, which is integrated into many exercises. Controlled breathing not only helps to activate core muscles but also improves oxygenation and blood circulation, essential for injury healing, muscle recovery, and overall energy levels.

Breathwork

Opus classes focus on engaging the fascial body, the connective tissue that surrounds muscles and organs. Through a variety of exercises in these classes, participants work on stretching and strengthening the fascial network. This leads to improved muscle function, better body alignment, and enhanced proprioception (body awareness). Such attention to the fascial body is crucial not only for general physical health but also plays a significant role in injury recovery.
